Hot Shots Program 2019

Gate Pa is again running its successful tennis program for young children aged 5+. Kids love the “learn by play” method of teaching and parents love professionally presented program that caters for little ones through to budding pro’s.

Coach Peter Blow and his assistants are qualified “HotshotTennis” coaches in Tauranga. With over 20+ years experience working with beginner players to national champions there is a place for all children within the Gate Pa tennis program.

Peter explains the Red stage is for beginners (5-7 years). The redball is larger than a yellow ball and doesn’t bounce as high (just 25% compression), making it easy for even the youngest players to hit it comfortably. The courts and nets used in the Red stage are much smaller making it easier for novice young players to move around and enjoy success.

After mastering the Red stage, children move on to the Orange stage (8-10 years) where the ball bounces a little higher (50% compression) and the court is a slightly larger. The ball used in the Green stage (9+ years) has a higher compression than the Red and Orange stages (75% of a yellow tennis ball) and children play on a full-size court.The Gate Pa Tennis Club welcomes young players who may wish to try the “Hotshots” programme as an introduction to tennis.

Our Junior Tennis Programme starts on the following dates:

Thursday Afternoon Club Coaching
Competent players (8 –10 year olds) 3.30pm to 4.30pm
Intermediate & Social group (games & coaching) 4.30pm to 6.00pm
Competitive group (matches & coaching) 6.00pm to 7.30pm

What is the Cost?

Junior Club Membership Subscription is just $170 for the season
Membership includes

• 12 months access to the Club Astro grass courts;
• organised club days from September through to April;
• professional coaching on club days;
• optional extra coaching for a minimal cost;
• catering for all ages 5 years upwards;
• end of seasonclub championships tournament…..and more!

Junior Open Days 2018 - have a go!

OPEN DAYS are being held for new "Have A Go" juniors on Sunday the 15th & 222nd of September 2019. Come along and have a go at no initial cost, we can even provide a loan racket on the day!

This "Have A Go" Open Day is for new beginners of all ages and for our existing junior club members.
This is an opportunity to receive free coaching and information on the club’s junior professional
activities. Gate Pa Tennis Club caters for all players as young as 5 years old in the NZ Tennis Hot Shot’s programme as well as older, social and more competitive junior players. Tennis racquets are available for use on the open day so come along and have a go!

Smith Sports Shoes Gate Pa Junior Tournament (formerly Labour Weekend Tournament)

Our junior tournament happens every year., historically on Labour Weekend. In the past three years this was held at the WBOP Facility at Papamoa. This year we are changing the date and format. It will be a Singles only Graded/Banded event held on Sunday 17th November 2019. We are very pleased to have the continued sponsorship of Smiths Sports Shoes. With over 50 successive years, this is one of the premier junior events in the region. Watch out for comms!
